Nel suo lavoro fotografico, Sunnifa Hope trasforma gli spazi museali in una sorta di studio d’artista, luogo di produzione di opere d’arte, piuttosto che luogo di conservazione. Fotografando i musei in un tempo del calendario espositivo a cui il pubblico non ha accesso, l’artista anima i materiali di allestimento e li trasforma in forme scultoree.
La serie di fotografie Curio nasce dalla fascinazione esercitata dagli spazi del museo senza opere d’arte, ma ancora con i segni e gli oggetti dell’allestimento della mostra. Guardando alla museografia e alla tradizione espositiva, la serie Curio si collega in maniera trasversale al concetto del “cabinet of curiosities” e alle origini del museo stesso, proponendo al pubblico una ricontestualizzazione dell’opera d’arte nel Museo della musica.

In her series of photographs, Sunnifa Hope transforms the exhibition space into a sort of artist’s studio, a place for the creation of works of art. By photographing museums during periods to which the viewer is not normally witness, the artist acts as a curator, choosing how to compose the exhibitions debris and transforming them into sculptural forms. The Curio series was born out of the fascination offered by museum spaces and equipment without the works of art. Looking at the museological traditions used to display and viewing artworks, this series acts as an oblique reference to the ‘cabinet of curiosities’ and to the origins of the museum itself, presenting a new contextualization of the art work in the Museo della musica.
